PAUL PLIMLEY passed on May 16, 2022, age 69.                               GLENN SPEARMAN left us in October 1998.

Three tracks here come from June 1994 sessions at Oliver DeCicco's Mobius Music in San Francisco--the two "M Base" that went on Paul's Density Of The Lovestruck Demons and the completely improvisational "Long Forward Pasts" that went on Glenn's posthumous Free Worlds.

'Fanfare' is a tribute recorded to Glenn by Kidd, Oliver, Alvin, Darrell, Brian and me in 2014 at the Jazz Camp benefit in New Orleans. It occurs in the 'Wings Beyond Wings' compilation on YouTube between 9:45 and 20:45. I'm with Oliver afterward. He said: "Glenn was great."

"African Space Party" is Ecstatic/Transcendent from Paul, Hamid and Tommy at the 2007 Vancouver International Jazz Fest.

The poem about Paul I recorded yesterday.

            Paul Plimley

Ginger-haired Jack with a smile

Pops up behind the couch

For his Willie Winkle morning greeting.

Paul liked fun. Aussi, Paul engaged with grape and thorn

The most serious challenges

Keyboards and philosophies may afford.

Jaguar Emerald-Green

Station-Wagon—now that

Speaks for Practical Style—

Hand to the sky, Ultramarine

The mists and Isles beckoning Harborward

Into the Mystic past Gray’s End.

Canada was something—

But far from the Fin’ne-Nan-Nah-Loos

A Syll-a-Boos-Ta-Rost-Tee-Myr-Kum-Za!

Dash, Paul, Elfin but Prodigious

Through Comics’ Fancies Sup-

Ra Color Revolutions in Sun and Province, even!

Then, Cecil, for a Shock

Runaway stampeding

Rachmaninoff, Oscar Peterson, … all

Save the two B’s and perhaps a third

With rhythms and correlative imagings

That arrive, maybe, at Catharsis from World Wars.

Where there’s Dance, there’s Hope, Paul!

Where’e’re your strange and tender child’s

Heart springs into its treasures of problems

To be wrestled and wrested through music=—

What else, what more, never ceases striding?—

Rush on, bright and deep, as your sweet self’s pondering did make things new!

Hamid of India and other places.

In 2013 Hamid said to me in New Orleans: "Paul Plimley! One of my favorite people in the universe!" The video of th 2-part "AFRICAN SPACE PARTY" performance is to me one of the great Passages Upward in the Western world in this century. I enjoy ... Party 2 even more.

If ever a performer suited the video-still, 'tis the Old Master, Paul Plimley.
